Guys,

my 3 little Dells under my desk at work currently are:-

GX100 - Cel566
GX1 - PII350
GX1 - PII400

The GX100 can take ut to PIII800 (Socket 370 / 100FSB)
The GX1s can take up to PIII500s (Slot 1 / 100FSB / 512k cache)

I can't afford to spend too much.

Let me know if you want to sell any of the above to give TA Seti a little boost.

They currently produce about 5 WU/day between them, with the upgrades I reckon between 7 to 8 WU/day....
It all helps.

cheers,

Col

I have an OptiPlex GX1 that originally came with a P2-400. I successfully put in a P3-550, and those boxes should take up to a P3-600.

HOWEVER.........

Using the new PowerLeap Slot1 adapter, I have successfully upgraded my box to a Coppermine Celeron 1.3Ghz. Total cost was $130 for the
CPU from NewEgg & adapter off of Ebay. The adapter will go up to 1.4Ghz, but the sweet spot at the time I bought was the 1.3.

Just something to think about.

I have a Slocket T & a S370GU in 2 rigs under my control
My sons rig which has my old Soyo 6BA+III (BX, slot1) has the Slocket T & a Cel 1.1A@1.39GHz & my mates rig with a Soyo 7VCA (694x,S370) has the S370GU & A Cel 1.1A@1.46GHz.

The Slocket T costs £22
S370GU costs £25:confused:
Tualatin Celerons 1.1A GHz cost £31 from CCL

As you can see the Slocket T is far cheaper than the powerleap but it doesn't supplie a power source for the CPU so some of the very old BX mbrds can't use them.
lmk if you want more info.

I agree with mgpaulus re your GX1's ,if they can take a PIII 500 Katamai then they should be able to take a PIII 600 Katamai too.
Btw unfortunatly the only PIII's I have for sale are a PIII 733 & PIII 933

It sounds tempting, £51 for 1.1Ghz, I can probably pick up a Katmai for £25.
How would 512k cache stack up against the 1.1Ghz in Seti ?????

Do you mean a PIII 600 512k vs Cel 1.1A GHz 256k ? ,no contest the Cel would kick its arse;)
A PIII 600 Kat would do WU's in about 10hrs ish ,not so sure about the Cel @ default MHz but its got be less than 7hrs

Hi Geoff,

how much would you want for it shipped to the UK ?

Assim,

thanks for that mate, maybe afford to do one of them with the Slocket, and the others with Katmais.

thanks,

Col

Hey hey,

The PIII-700 arrived from Wiz this morning, it's in and working..

Should be a good improvement over the Cel566 that was in there..

Extra 133Mhz, extra 128K cache, 100FSB not 66 !!

Here's what the Cel was doing...

Average Time 13 hr 47 min
Average CPU Time 12 hr 55 min (93% efficient)
Connections 577
Last connection Tue 2003 Feb 11 10:05:00pm (12 hr 26 min ago)
Last result received at Tue 2003 Feb 11 10:04:53pm (12 hr 27 min ago)
Red time (overdue est) 15 hr 46 min
14-Day Average Time 14 hr 6 min
14-Day Average CPU Time 13 hr 5 min (92% efficient)
14-Day Average Results per day 1.69

Let's see what the PIII does..

Oh the excitement....

:)

Does take a while from the US.. I think it's when the guy picks it up from Heathrow airport and has to ride up north with it on his Donkey....

Thanks for taking the care to package it so well Wiz and mark it as a gift !!!

The Celeron is on Ebay now, hopefully might make £10 - £15..

Not bad, was hoping for 9h30ish....

We'll see how it averages over the next few days...

Hmmm... I know that cpu was perfectly stable at default volts on 133fsb. A little more volts required to get it stable at 139fsb.
Seti is kinda slower on anything less than 133 fsb, but at least you have shaved some hours off of each WU.
If Softfsb does it for you then you can get those times down to 6.5 - 7 hrs / WU at 133 fsb.
