These are not the good TDK CDRs. The good ones are the "Certified Plus" CDRs. The Certified Plus CDRs are actually made by TDK (unlike the "100% Certified" ones). The ones at the links stated are the "100% Certified" ones, which aren't the worst CDRs in the world (think PNY), but they are no where near the quality of the "Certified Plus" CDRs. I believe that the CPs use cyenide (sp?) dye. I have no clue what the 100% Certified ones are made with.

How does one go about identifying the good cdr's from the bad and the ugly cdr's? Is there a website with the info or some program one can run? Thanks, folks.

The TDK's I just bought are Certified Plus (+) and made in the USA. Bought them at the Salem Ave. CC store in Dayton, Ohio. Info. is on the label.

Poochy,

How does one go about identifying the good cdr's from the bad and the ugly cdr's? Is there a website with the info or some program one can run? Thanks, folks.

My first suggestion would be to do some searches in the General Hardware forum. There's several threads which discuss which are the best, decent and crappy CD-Rs.

Secondly, download CDR Identifier.

Hope this helps ...

I just picked up the 30 pack of 80 min. at Circuit City. They are of the Certified Plus variety, and this is what CDR Identifier has to say about them:

ATIP: 97m 15s 00f
Disc Manufacturer: TDK Corp.
Assumed Dye type: Cyanine (Type 0)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 702.83MB (79m 59s 74f / LBA: 359849)

For tax and a stamp, I figured this is a great deal. It will be a nice change of pace from all the cheapies I've been using lately.

Both of these TDK deals were previously mentioned in a thread. I don't remember the suggestion to use the buy.com coupon in addition to the rebate, but then again some things don't need to be mentioned.
