cheap system for linux? $189.00 no rebates

Hey there, I stumbled across this place that has a great cheap system for linux.

here are the specs, it comes with some o/s called centos but I replaced it with UBUNTU 🙂 much better linux distro IMHO

Hope this helps someone.. for $189.00 I think it's pretty cheap, well at least it fit my budget. I just wish they had it in a SFF case.

I'd have to agree with Playa, that is a little steep for an AMD1400 system w/those specs and a 90 day warranty.

As far as the OS is concerned, CentOS is RedHat Enterprise Linux repackaged by the Community Enterprise OS team - CentOS. It all depends on your application as to what distro is better. CentOS is very well suited for Enterprise level servers. I prefer the new SuSE 10.1 for desktops.

That looks like an old gateway case - does yours look like the picture?

I used to have a couple of Athlon 1400 systems. This CPU runs very hot-I could never get any system to run below the mid-50s C even with very good heatsinks and cases.

This a a rummage sale system, specs wise. If it was selling for $50, maybe it could be considered a hot deal, but not otherwise.
 
Don't sweat it. Not every thread is great. I've posted threads that I was certain would be a great deals and nobody posted. LOL
