The ones I use are already listed. If I can't get what I need there then I go to mouser or sparkfun. Sometimes ebay has some electrical parts.

ebay often has lots of junque, hard to sift through though, unless you know what you want.

Most every town has some oldass milsurp/hardware store combo, you can usually find neat stuff there at ok prices...

I had a friend who was a dumpster diver at local factories. You would be amazed at the electronics stuff he accumulated. He eventually got busted for it and the cops searched his house, but they didn't charge him and let him keep the stuff, but they told him not to do it any more.

Depends on what you want. I have a local thrift shop that gets all kinds of stuff in. You're unlikely to find something specific, but if you want bits and parts to experiment with, there's a good selection.

There's no law against dumpster diving. If it was thrown out, it's presumed to be up for grabs. If somebody doesn't want their trash picked through, it's up to them to get rid of it through other means.

If you want some vintage 60's and 70's stuff like resistors, capacitors, transistors etc my garage can't be beat. Free for the taking and no guarantees. ;)

Cops just wanted first pick.
