looking for cheap speakers for my linux server, which I sometimes use to play music (say, when I want to be rocking while I'm working on the guts of my main machine).

cheap means like...$25, so I don;t expect much, but I expect that even at that price range, there is utter crap, and there is decent for the price.

The alternative is to find a garage sale and pay $3 for some random speakers.

Hello,

According to me Creative speakers are the best and they sound the best..

Thanks,
Dave Smith

LOL you must be new here. :)

I am not a fan of "computer speakers", they are usually made cheaply, lack proper frequency response and all that, but I understand the need for them. Some people just don't need or want hifi sound.
In my days of owning computer speakers, the best sounding per dollar to me were Altec Lansing, Logitech, and Creative, in that order.
Now I suggest a small reciever off Craigslist and some bookshelves, and build from there.

So for $25, just get whatever you can get, there's not going to be alot of differences in a speaker system that cheap. (I go used for so much stuff these days and save a ton of money, and end up with better stuff in the end)

I love my logitech X-240's. They are the best sounding speakers I've ever had in this price range. I got them for 24.99 I think at best buy about a year and a half ago.

Look on your local Craigslist. Just recently (like a week ago) got a BRAND NEW set of Logitech Z-680 (those 5.1 THX certified shits) for $40 fucking dollars!!!

Just saying, you never know the kinda deals you may find on Craigslist...sure its gone down hill, but every now and then theres something good to be had...
