for those of you who travel between SoCal/NorCal (ie live in the gay bay and go to school in/around LA, or live in LA and go to school in the gay bay) you should be able to get one way fares for $30 each way from SJ/Oak to LAX/Ont/SNA/Bur or something... I just booked a flight yesterday for next Friday from San Jose to Ontario for $81.50 round trip :) Sure beats driving 6 hours down to LA... figure 2 tanks of gas @ $20/tank one way, so $80 for gas + time it takes makes flying much more worth it :)

bah, they ran out of "promotional fares" from SD to SJ but for some reason haven't run out of the $59.99 "discount fare"

i even bought up tickets last week, which is 2 months in advance of the actual flight. it was strange how they charge me $39.99 for the ticket to SJ but $59.99 for the way back, i bet if i had bought the tickets separately they wouldn't have "run out" of the promotional fare.

<< great deal on flights! too bad john wayne in orange county isn't listed >>

those of us near Orange County Airport get chooched by Southwest on almost all of their specials. I don't think I have ever been able to get a promotional fare out of or into Orange County and I've been flying SWA since RenoAir was bought by American...watch the TV commercials, they exclude Orange County always. I called and asked them once about it, they gave me some crap answer like the Orange County service and market is too small to warrant a promo or blah blah...

I DON'T WANT TO DRIVE TO LAX OR ONTARIO TO GET A GOOD DEAL!

so you do what you can and visit less often

Sign up for the SW E-mails

Each Wed they send out specials. About $10-30 off normal low prices.

They try to keep the prices low by not offering frills and avoiding the expensive overhead airports (O-Hare, LAX, JFK, DFW, etc) and using the overflow fields. Saves them plenty of money and they actually pass it on in their fares.

Most SW fares can be for less than $200 (raw) R/T if you are a little flexible on you travel time (of day)and use the proper day of week.
Book early though.
