i figured this question would fit in off topic than software, because it's not a technical question.

i bought windows xp pro sp2 from an online software vendor recently. basically they just gave me a download link and a serial key. it also comes with a program called "MS.Windows.KeyFinder.exe" that i have to use in order to get updates for it.

is this stuff legitimate?

lmao...if you have to ask...

where does this link take you? why do you need a keyfinder prog if they give you a key?

ok the website is "Soft4Download" and they have other softwares for real cheap but i'm really doubting it's legit....

No. Legit MS software should come with an original MS holographic disk and a COA.

Repeat after me:

If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

YourMusic.com sounded too good to be true, but it's not. I love $5.99 CDs!

OEM doesn't, retail does. But I don't think you can download any legit MS software.

Sure you can, MSDN academic alliance.

But you need an Academic license to cover that to be legit. Just because I have copies of Windows XP and a universal academic key doesn't make it legit.

other than academic agreements, pretty much all MSDN subscriptions include at least 1 license for each product (that you could then go ahead and download from said msdn site).
