Cheap snowblowers at Home Depot YMMV

Just bought a snowblower at the Home Depot in Mentor, OH. It seems that they are having hidden end-of-season markdowns on some snowblowers. I got a MTD Yard-Man 8 hp 24 inch width snowblower which had a tag price of $698, and it rang up for $479. I have no clue if any other snowblowers or Home Depot stores are doing this, but it's worth a check.

BTW I forgot to mention that they had 3-4 of the model I bought left, so those should all be $480 I would think.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and own TWO snowblowers. One for main use, one for backup in case the first one breaks down. When you live in an area that can accumulate 300 inches of snow in six months, you REALLY need to be prepared.

any idea if any of the smaller/cheaper snowblowers are on sale? We in NYC tend to get some snow, but not like Michigan. I'm looking for like a 4-5hp blower and looking to spend like $250.

Edit: I know Sears has a 4hp Craftsman snowthrower for $300, but I hear mixed reviews about it and I'd like to go cheaper if possible. The nice thing about them over Toro is that they're 4-cycle, so you can use regular gas.

Not a clue. You'd have to go to the closest Home Depot and have them scan the barcode on the snowblowers they have in your range and see if any come up significantly cheaper.

Your best bang for the buck for a smaller snowblower is to find a used 19-21" single stage blower. A couple months ago I found a 19" Snapper for under $100. $20 in parts for the main blower and another $10 spent on cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor and it runs like a champ. The only downside is the 2-cycle Tecumseh snow king engines are loud...louder even than my Stihl brushcutter.

BTW, I'm convinced that the $130 I spent on this snowblower is the reason why we've had the warmest first 4 days of January in history with no end in sight. I figure it's money well-spent 🙂

My father-in-law bought a top of the line 10 horsepower Toro last year for $1,500. And that was a GOOD deal on it (normally $1,800)

Is this a closeout item?
I searched the Homedepot website for this model and I couldn't find it.
In fact, this particular unit is difficult to find anywhere on the web, although I did locate it.
I wonder if replacement parts are difficult to get?
Anyway, thanks OP for the interesting post.

Well you won't find it on the Home Depot website because they only have items they can ship on there. As far as I know anything large like that you have to get in-store.
