As a PSA, DollarTrees in MD have glass screen protectors for a few major phones(iphone/galaxy) for $1(of course). I've been using one for a couple months, and it works pretty well. Might not be the best available, but hard to beat for $1. Would be good for kids phones, or if you're trying to save some money.

I'm pretty careful with my phone, but wanted to see how well an addon glass protector worked. I'm happy with it, and in the future, would pay <$5 to not have pay as much attention to where I put my phone.

The cheap ones work fine although they seem like they may chip/crack more easily. The other problem is sometimes the oleophobic coatings aren't as good. And I've also noticed sometimes a few of them come with tiny bits of weird gunk on the glass (outside surface) right out of the box.

But for a buck you can't complain. You can buy 10 of them and could just change them every few months if you wanted.

Some other issues I've noticed:

1) Some are too thick. Not recommended for Apple's 3D Touch.
2) Sometimes the cut outs aren't perfect. For example a lot of the ones you'll find now being sold for the 7/7+ are really the 6/6+ 6s/6s+ models, but the slit for the earpiece is actually the wrong size. It works fine, but it's not perfect.
3) Their packaging often sucks, so high risk of damage if it gets mailed to you.
4) They may not come with very good cleaning materials, etc.

Yea, it's not as good as the factory screen, but much better than the plastic crap I've seen. I've never used one before, and my screen's virtually flawless, but it's required effort to keep it that way under harsh conditions. For $1, I'll take the slight reduction in quality, to be a little more lax in phone care.

A $1 cover probably isn't for someone who wants the best. Best is to leave it naked, and be careful.
