Can someone help me pick out a cheap reliable printer? My budget is around 60-75 and i have no idea which ink to buy. Can someone help me out? This will just be a basic printer for just regular documents, nothing fancy.

If your doing just text look for a cheap laser printer, you might be able to find one in your price range after rebates.
If you dont want to spend the extra money on a laser I sugest a Canon. The Ink is less expensive than HP or Epson.

Canon i250 It's $50 retail so you can go to your local officedepot and pick one up. The real nice thing is $7 black ink cartridges. The more you print the more you save. Sure beats competitors' $30 refill cartridges.

Ironic though that most of HPs printers are manufactured by Canon anyway. Either way you go... I own few HP printers, both laser and ink-jet and am very happy with all of them.

Yeah, Staples finally caught their error. Now the ip3000 is back to $79.98 plus the $10. bonus check. But I definitely recommend Canon - any model that fits your needs and budget. Ink tanks are CHEAP. I get mine from the USAInkjet (div. of Tyler-Martin) store on eBay (they sell them cheaper on eBay than on their own web site - don't ask me?). They are the best Canon compatibles I've found for the money.
. Use any of the price comparison sites (pricewatch, pricegrabber, froogle, dealtime etc.) to find the best price on the one you want.

Enter the coupon, it still works. It's $20 off still so 80 - 20 -10 = $50

If you note, they've bumped the starting price up to $99.98 - so when you enter the code, it's 79.98. I did try it this morning. I know it was good at least until about 10:00pm EDT last night.
. Let me know if you tried it after 10pm last night and your order get bounced.

Any chance you have a link to prove this? I have never heard of this and would love to prove it right to share with a few people :)

I can remember when Apple printers were made by Canon, but not HP. Though I could be wrong.

Let me clear this up. HP has used Canon made engines for their Laser printers in the past.
Canon has nothing to do with HP inkjets.

Another vote for Canon.
I just bought a Canon black ink tank for my i850 for $13. The ink for my old Lexmark z52 was $35.

Well I know that Canon and HP are working together on some particular printers. I belive its a group effort of HP and Canon engineers designing a majority of todays laser printers.

I was just informed that some Zip Codes still get the $59.98 deal on the ip3000. So give it a shot!

I would suggest getting a laser printer if you're only printing documents.... You can print thousands of pages on the cartridge (I have done so with the Brother HL-1435) and you can probably get "powder" refills for it much cheaper than an inkjet.

You can get them for less than $2.

monsterinjets.com
megatoners.com
tylermartin.com (try the USA brand)

or ebay....

True, for the most part. Perhaps that person was slightly confused, because Compaq used to sell bundled inkjet printers with their name on them, that were (IIRC) re-labeled Canon units, and now HP and Compaq merged, so in a sense those could be considered "HP Canon printers".

I work for HP but I can't divulge exactly where, but I do work with printers. A majority of the laser printers have the word Canon writtin on some part or another. Once the product is released to the public though, it's all HP. I'm not saying this is bad or anything. Just saying that HP printers are also Canon printers too in a way. They may have been designed by Canon enginners, or HP engineers, or both. As far as I know though they are manufactured, i.e. put together at a Canon manufacturing facility.
