Only a 90 day warranty, that killed it for me. I won't buy the extended warranty from BB.

yeah... well.. the 6 speaker system is too weak.. if you look at the speaks in satellate and subwoofer. So if you get 2 pair, you can use them as front and surround separately. Or get a third pair and use one speaker as center channel and the other as backup...

Both the receiver and the speakers are probably crap. But who cares? This would kick ass in the bedroom!

Yeah, unfortuntely the speakers are junk. If they were $50 they might be worth it. In the past month, they have had the KLH 911B and KLH 853B on sale for $10 each ($20/pair). Go to Costco and get the KLH 10" subwoofer for $80 AR and for $120 altogether you will be kicking pretty nicely. You still need a center channel, so a pair of anything cheap wired in series would do okay (or, you could use the TV's speakers as a cheap man's center channel!

I just went to Best Buy to look at these speakers which I ordered last night.

The speakers have two holes in the back for mounting. Do the speakers come with any additional accessories to mount onto the wall? Another thread mentions that they come with mounting brackets....are they just referring to the holes in the back?

If indeed they don't come with anything to mount onto the wall, I figured out how to build brackets for under 10 dollars. I saw mounting brackets at Best Buy for 50+ dollars. Just go to Loews or wherver and buy a set of drywall anchors. Then get metal plating (they are like 3 bucks for 4 plates). I don't know what they are called but they are predrilled (you can use those pre-drilled holes to mount onto the wall with dry wall anchors.) Then buy yourself a metal drill bit and drill holes so that you can screw onto the back of the speakers. You've just spent about 10 dollars vs 250 for 3 sets of wall mounts.

Also this speaker doesn't require a subwoofer cable rt? You just attach the front L/R to this rt? And on another note, are sub woofer cables and RCA cables the same thing? The guy at Best Buy looked like he was trying to rip me off....I don't think there are any differences besides the name; I doubt the sub cable filters any frequencies or anything.

Yes, they are. Just buy two "F-to-RCA" adapters at Radio shack and an RCA cable and you'll have a cheap sub cable (~$10). Also, this is an easy way to run long distances if you want to place the subwoofer behind you.

you have obviously bought into Best Buy's PSP (extended warranty) propoganda.

1. if a product is crappy quality, push the PSP because it's probably going to break
2. if a product is expensive, but obviously good quality, push the PSP because if it DOES break, it's going to be as expensive as hell to fix.

i used to work at BB and in this case: a pair of cheap throw-away speakers, and a cheap receiver (AWESOME HOT DEAL though), pass on the PSP.

my 2 cents.

I think for most electronics, 90% of the case, it will either break down in the first month or last for a few years.. is that right?

Exactly. When BestBuy... or any insurance... is sold to you, the company that sells you this policy is making a gamble that the product will not break. By buying the Extended Warranty, you are making a gamble that the product will break, and that the cost of breakage will be more than the price of the Warranty. Whether or not you have studied the quality of the product or the likelihood that it will break, you can bet that they have... and they have determined that it generally wont, or that the total taken in by warranties will be greater than the cost to fix the assorted few that will come back.

okay. well - i'll put it more bluntly.

klh makes crap products that are a over-welming portion of our dead units.

i wouldn't touch klh no matter how cheap it is.

It could be that people are buying more KLH than any other brands.. the percentage really matters..

Duh, if you sell a million KLH, and 10000 Denon, which do you think are gonna be most of your returns/repairs?

This receiver is so cheap, why bother with the extended warranty? You can just go out and get a new one.

Well put. I think you have to look at each product individually when deciding to buy an extended warranty or not. In this instance, it's not worth it for $10 speakers.
