Cheap place to buy TI calculators?

Well my uncle let me borrow his TI-86 for my highschool classes but I've noticed that it is pretty slow when doing anything longer than 5 or 6 calculations. It also takes around 6 or 7 seconds to graph simple equations (ex: y=6x+2 took like 7 seconds where as newer calculators do it instantly). Also, he didn't give me the manual or the USB cable so I can't put any apps on it.

So I've been looking at buying a TI-84+ Silver Edition, any good sales on them? Every place has them for $120+ but I know somebody out there has to have them on sale...

I got my new in blister pack Ti-89 regular from Ebay ( some pawn shop I think ) for $100.

Can't use those on ACT or SAT.

I searched the Hot Deals forum and it came up with 2 dead deals, thats it.

You dont need a graphing calc on the ACT or SAT - just a calc with basic functions. You'll waste more time punching crap in you don't need to.

They've banned all calculus/algebra capable calculators then. TI can't be very happy, the whole purpose of the 89 was to get the 92 in to those tests. I'd imagine the already killer profit margin of the TI-8x series is even higher on the 89 too.

That how I got mine as well but that was like 5 years ago. Those calculators really keep their value eh?

Buy an 89 for sure. If you get an 84 now, you'll want an 89 later. Doesn't hurt to have both, but you might as well just jump to the 89. My roommate had an 83 or an 86 up until last year. You soon discover that doing all those integrals in engineering is just a waste of time. You'd rather have a better calculator that lets you jump through the hoops easier.

I got my 89 at Fry's. I bought it for full price $149, but it went on sale quite often and when it dropped to $107, we went to adjust the price. This was back in the day though.... like 6 years ago.

The 89 and the 84 both have their places. I currently have an 89 and am looking to buy an 84. The 89 has more features, but some are a pain to access. For example, entering matrices into the 89 is really annoying. You have to actually type "[[a,b],[c,d]]" and don't forget that "[" is a special character requiring you to press the "2nd" key first.
