I've been going to autozone for stuff for years. But, I just realized I could probably find stuff online cheaper. Any suggestions for reliable fast shipping places to order from?

Try RockAuto, but with shipping/etc you might be better off with a B&M store. I get emails from Advance Auto with discount codes, so it might be worth looking into getting onto an email list for your favorite place.

Advance is competitive, I just did my brakes 2 months ago, I made the mistake of using the cheapie pads for the rears and boy what a dust nightmare it is..

Yea RA is the best all round I have found online.

But if I need just basic cheap pads then the Silvers from AZ/Advance is where I go. If I need decent ones in a rush then the Gold ones from them is my next step. After that its RA.

Amazon actually has decent prices for rotors and you get free shipping also.

Autopartswarehouse is also another good place (free shipping!).

Rock Auto is alright, but shipping usually kills the deal for me.

For B&M, Pepboys ceramic line brakes are made by Satisfied and they are about $40. They never carry my rotors though.

Thanks for the ideas guys. It looks like Advance with coupon codes will be my best bet from now on. Thanks!

Just and FYI make sure you get real pads. I just read an article this weekend about the massive influx of counterfit and fake parts from China and Mexico. There are brake pads out there with the pad surface is made from compressed grass and other with compressed saw dust. If there is one part in your vehicle to not go cheap on it's your brakes.

That's hilarious, got a link?

If you're buying rotors and pads, I was very satisfied with my drilled / slotted rotors from brakeperformance.com. If you buy the dimpled/slotted rotors, they throw in pads, and cover warping on the lifetime warranty. For me, the drilled / slotted was cheaper than OEM, so that's what I went with.

I also bought some performance semi-metallic pads from them, they were just OK. They did have a lot of "meat" on them though, more than the Napa semi-metallic pads have.

ugh, i used to have drilled/slotted on my car. never again. They dont add any benefit other than looks, and actually increase braking distances. Also drilled/slotted eat thru pads A LOT faster.

I used to shop Rockauto only almost exclusively but autohausaz.com is quickly becoming my preferred parts provider. The parts are a little more sometimes, but everything over $50 is free shipping so it ends up being cheaper in the end many times.

Shipping is fast as well...

I've noticed that they "bite" a fair amount better under wet conditions as well (makes sense, gives any water on the rotor a quick exit path), this is helpful on the street. The OEM (smooth) rotors felt more "slippery" (less grip, and less consistent grip) than these do. But that's just my opinion.

There can be performance benefits if you aggressively (like racetrack aggressively) drive your car, with lots of long and and/or high-speed braking which can heat up your rotors and cause fade. But that should make virtually no difference in day-to-day on-the-road driving.

Other than that, you're right for the most part. I don't really mind eating thru pads (marginally) faster, as pads are cheap, and I know how to replace them myself.

i'll keep this in mind. in most cases rockauto beats local places by good enough when i buy 3-5 parts even after shipping rockauto beats them. Only advantage is i wait a couple days. last time i ordered water pump ,timing belt from rockauto on a saturday about 10am, i got monday morning at 11am. i selected 3 day shipping UPS. i figured Monday is day one and i would get it Wednesday. That was amazing shipping.

i might try this autohausaz.

Find the best price you can but DO NOT buy the cheap (aka low quality) brake parts that are made in shithole countries like China. The metal in the rotors is inferior and they wear very fast and tend to warp more. The pads also wear quickly, make lots of brake dust, and do not stop as well. Get the best quality parts but the best deal you can.

Who makes pads in China? Never seen them before.

I'm not sure where the cheapie pads are made, but they are junk and should be avoided. The cheapie rotors are made in China and are complete crap.

BTW....I said countries LIKE China....you know, the places where labor is super cheap and the raw materials used are substandard in order to keep costs to a minimum. Quality is a minimum also.

For example, a number of deaths in Saudi Arabia were attributed to the use of counterfeit brake pads made of compressed wood chips. In Nigeria, brake shoe linings made from compressed grass burst into flames when the brakes were applied. In 1997, seven children died and many others were seriously injured when counterfeit brake pads made of sawdust failed, causing their school bus to overturn.

Oh I agree. The majority of what I saw when I was a tech was US or Canada made. Some from europe but that was mostly on newwer Euro cars I was doing work on that had little after market support yet.

Autozone has lifetime replacements for free after 1st purchase. 9 years on the accord and 14+ on the prelude.

Its not supposed to be that way. The warranty says its lifetime for quality issues/defect. Wearing out is not a defect.

I know AZ is very liberal with policy but Advance will not exchange them for wear only now.

AZ must be very liberal. The clerks push it. But, hey, I'm not complaining. Freebies to me.
