I went to he store to pickup and they had marked my order as deleted b/c the item was out of stock. I said that shouldn't i have gotten an email or a phone call and the assistant manager said i should have and said he would replace with something similar. When we got to the tape isle, there were boxes and boxes or 381571, the 36 pack. He gave me the order since it was clearly not out of stock.

What we learned:
1) If you get in store and they say it is out of stock, ask (politely) why you didn't get some sort of notice so you didn't waste your time going to the store and and maybe they'll try to match the deal like the guy was going to do for me.

2) If 1 fails then ask for the store print out and search for the item with the same sku in their isles.

I got a call last night from my local store and the manager left a message saying that it was a pricing error nationwide. He said that I can pick up the tape, but it would be $29.99 instead of $4.04. He said that I could either cancel my order or purchase the tape at the regular price. Forget that.

I went ahead and cancelled my order and then tried to reorder for pick up at another local store and now it shows up as being discontinued. It's probably not discontinued, but it was probably the easiest way for OD to pull the item until they can get the price error fixed. Oh well..

I drove 20 minutes one way today to get to OD on Route 4 Hamilton Ohio, I get in the parking lot and my cell rings, it is someone who works at that store explaining they dont have the tape I ordered, only the 29.99 tape. I kindly tell them last night on the website it was in stock and she gives me a bunch of crap about an SKU then I ask them to call the store in Tri-County and they do only to report that they also do not have the tape. So I told them I was fedup for wasting 45 minutes of my day and hung up.
Well well, Office Depot can SACK DEEZ!

I went into my local OD (luckily for me was not out of the way) and right next to the door there were the packages of tape that I ordered (I put down one of each). Evidently somebody had come in just before me and had just left emptyhanded. Anyway the manager refused to sell me the tape, saying it was a pricing error nationwide, he mentioned FW and how they had received thousands of orders.

Too late for me :(

I can search for the item, added to the cart, but when selecting the "pickup" option, my cart got emptied out because the two item I selected is "Discontinued":

There was a problem adding these items to the cart.
Select an option to resolve the problem and then click "Continue"

FWIW IMO for in-store pickup orders, "Delivered" means in-stock and "Discontinued" in the shopping cart means OOS.

The way in-store pickup is handled by OfficeDepot.com is a little tricky at best. My local stores pull stock for my orders, except one time when I was given the run around for the Atlantis desk deal.

One thing that OD does improperly is automatically charge your CC once your order is cleared by the local store. They shouldn't do that until you sign for pickup since in some cases, the local store manager will refuse to sell an item below cost, even though some lackey already accepted the order and the .com division has already charged you for it.

Ordered yesterday and waited until tonight, 8:15PM to pick it up; the c/o clerk looked at my printout, excused herself, returned several minutes later and proceeded to check me out. She stated that, "Your order somehow didn't register in our system." I got three, 3-packs of the premium 3 mil tape...for 3.86...amazing...for 9 rolls...

This tape is thick...I have a roll of 3M premium taple I bought as filler to get the $10 off at Staples during the APC deal...it was $4.87 for the one roll and its "backing" is 'thinner' than the 3M.

Called Staples out of curiousity and asked them whether they would take it back even though it was purchased in May; their answer was that as long as it was in its wrapper, virgin, and that I had my original receipt it would be no prob.

This tape is so cool. The only downside is that the 3M sticky side is more uniform and doesn't "streak" or show "layers"...other than that, it's stronger than the 3M (which is very strong) and slightly less adhesive.

Thank you to the MuffD for the great deal.

Thank you MuffD for the Great Deal!....

Both items now showing as discontinued. The stores do, however, carry them, albeit at regular price.

I placed an order yesterday around 4pm for pickup at the City of Industry, CA location. Around 6pm, I got a call saying my order was cancelled because the item was discontinued. I then placed an order for pickup at the West Covina, CA location shortly after. I tried to pick it up today, but got denied by the manager who cited that it was an error on the website. Supposedly he got an email from the Corporate HQ citing not to give these away at the said price. Boo.

Glad you some of you got some. This is a great deal for me because since I left my last job, I don't get free shipping material anymore.
