I am not going to get my gaming computer for another 6 months (graduation present) so I am assembling a computer to use now, not too expensive, just browsing and maybe some programming, etc, I will use it for 24/7 downloading once I get my good one. So I already have a keyboard and mouse, optical drive, floppy, and monitor from some Pentium 1/2 somethings in my room that I took apart. So I need cpu, MB, and Ram. Just wondering if this is best:
3700+ w/ free MB @ newegg -$205.00

Cheap-O Hard Drive -$46

Cheap-O Value Ram -$37

any reason to get more expensive HD and RAM? thanks

All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster!

For utilitarian machine, the chip + mobo deal is pretty good. But for lots of DLs, you'll need a big hard drive. And badass RAM will do nothing for you.

All obey your noodly master!

I didnt think better RAM was needed, and I might get a bigger HD- I'm trying to keep this pretty low, but 40GB is pretty small, I guess. Thanks.

You will definitly need a big hard drive, more multiple hard drives. I'd suggest going for 250 or 300gb drives, they are the cheapest per gb i think.
