Hitachi SimpleNET NAS

$29.99

These things normally/originally sell for 2-3x that price. It is basically a little box that looks like a small notebook/netbook power brick. It has a power connector (for a wall wort), a 10/100 network port and two USB ports. You plug in any one or two USB drives and it shares them on the LAN. Supposedly setup is really simple and you don't need to sign up for an online account like the Seagate Dockstar (AKA PogoPlug). Performance is probably low (as befitting any USB drive) but cost/simplicity is the benefit to this device. There has also been some progress in hacking it for OpenWRT, but it is not yet supported.

i'm using the dockstar right now to backup house pc's... gets 10-15MB/s to a 2tb seagate drive, fine for backups... and the hack for the dockstar is real simple...

I ordered it on Sunday.
I didn't set up an account just placed the order.
I got an email about midnight tuesday 5th saying it had been shipped on the 4th.
No tracking number or any other information...very strange for frys

=================================
I went to frys and put in my email and order number and it said no tracking information available.
2 days after shipping and no information available?

just got one. Simple to setup and works but I am only getting 7mbit transfer speeds.
I am going to go into the unit and see if there is something I can change to get it faster.
