yeah, that and teflon was invented by accident...

I just placed an order for the 1/2" tape... didn't do it the first time because I didn't want to bother with calling, but the woman who took my order was very friendly and competent. Shipped it USPS for $2, just like 0roo0roo got. Great deal!

Hrmm orderd a few rolls from sciencekit... got an email that said my order was placed. Five business days later, no email saying it's shipped or tracking number or even a charge out of my card. Okay, placed order at CS Hyde (second link) via slloooowwww US mail (eh who cares, lot cheaper) shipping out tomorrow, lets see which one gets here first.

Btw, sciencekit customer service reply to my "why no ship my order?" email was: "Sorry I will be out of my office from 8/05/03 to 8/11/03." Um...

i dunno about the serivce at science kit, but i ordered from the 2nd link on the day i first posted. so that took about a week, not bad🙂

hah, that would be intersting. some of these places sell really wide/large tape. the really wide rolls might be huge though.

maybe you can make a teflon mouse pad, and forget about the mouse!

Or better yet, Teflon mousepad PLUS teflon mouse skates! Then again you might just slide a little too well, lol...

Or build a powerful magnetic base, coat it with teflon, then put on magnets under your mouse, then put teflon over it(obviously you invert the magnets).

Then you'll have the magnetic repelling effect going on(maybe not *too* strong magnets or the stupid mouse will keep floating off) to aid with the gliding.

Then we can all open up UltraGlide or something and beat the living snot out of EverGlide's mousepads until everybody who buys one realizes that it makes their monitor show funky colors and it erases their hard drives hehe.

Might be good if you keep it far from your hard drive and own an LCD monitor though. Could be THE BEST DAMN MOUSE PAD EVAR!

lol, maglev mouse/pad🙂

well after a while logitech and ms are gonna run outa other stuff to do with mice🙂

Just got finished painting my intellimouse. Replacement feet are discs cut from the flat, circlular part on the sides of a plastic one gallon milk container. Much smoother compared to the original feet, but no idea whether they'll last or not. Nice find on this stuff too 🙂

How lond does it take to get to u? I have order for a week, and still haven't gotten mine yet.

if its from the first link, they take their time apparently.

i ordered from the 2nd link and it took a week.

here's another alternative from the fat wallet thread.

I sell teflon tape for a living. We have a CNC slitter, meaning we can cut to any width, down to .250" wide, and can hold tolerance of +/- .030". I can sell 5 yard rolls of .250" wide for $5 shipped, .500" wide for $8.00 shipped. My company's site is www.curbell.com/cspg . Hold your cursor over "TAPE" and click on 2045. You are welcome to call me at the # on the page (during business hours), or email me at jburke02@hotmail.com . My name is Jeff Burke, Sales & Market Manager. Thanks.

and yea, those ms mice have piss poor mouse feet. rock hard plastic that doesn't slide well, good durability is their reason for using em i bet. logitech uses teflon pads, they wear down much faster, but work so much better its worth it.. now you can have the best of both worlds by using the tape😛

it feel like my mouse is gliding... or even flying lol.... All of you should give it a try.. 10 dollar for life supply of this tape is a great deal in my opinion =)🙂

Wow, I just returned from Cs Hyde's corporate building(2nd purchase link, but I opted to just drive there since I live close by), and met the owner, Sheridan O'Brien. She allowed me to review some of the different materials they offer...

The 5 dollar roll you see on the cs hydeexcess page, is true skived PTFE teflon tape. As you can see from the reviews above, the cs hyde material works just fine. They also offer 1/2 inch squares of skived ptfe teflon, at comparable price, which is set on a backing so reselling these things to your friends is much easier to handle than the tape rolls you see in both links. 1/2 inch squares(for a total of 64 pieces per roll) is part # 15-2HD-S-.5, and 1/2 inch diameter "dots" or "circles" of this stuff (for 139 pieces) is part # 15-2HD-D-D-.5... they also offer the UHMW stuff which is a bit less friction but for our geeky purposes, is more than enough, in 1/2 inch diameter circles(139 pieces), for part # 19-10A-D-.5... PM me if you want more details...

She also tells me that Sciencekit.com sells UHMW material as "white teflon", which means it really isn't real PTFE teflon, and is surprised at the high prices curbell.com and other places like mouseskatez.com sell for these tapes. (In fact, she just learned today why there have been so many orders for this tape recently in part of this thread and FW's thread on the topic).

Anyway... IMO, this mouse improvement works well with the 1/2" squares and 1/2" circles, better than the rolls of tape. Its easier to replace when they wear down in a few months, and its by far easier to install and resell(no cutting, no figuring out how to cut and ship the tape off the rolls and keep its adhesivness[i.e. how would you ship a yards worth of scotch tape?]). Think... dot candy... the 1/2 inch size works great for nearly all mice.

boy, it sound a little like an advertisment hehe, but this stuff is quite good! All my household's mice glides better than ever, especially my main one, on a Ratpadz(MS mice feet suck)...

Oh, and Thanks to Sheridan O'Brien for the samples and great service!

How do they get teflon to stick to anything?

How do they get the teflon to stick to the teflon to make a layer?

Has anyone tried these with a cheap-o mouse pad? In most of the reviews I see, the reviewer tries 'em out with a Ratpadz or Everglide or something similar. I'm currently using a cloth Fellowes pad that I picked up somewhere for a few bucks, and am wondering whether I should upgrade to a better mouse pad or get this tape instead. Does this stuff mainly give improvement when used on a surface that's fairly low friction already? Or do cloth pad users benefit as well?

Thanks,

Awesome price for this stuff. I was selling similar stuff on FS/FT, and people loved it. I'll have to check this stuff out. Especially the wider stuff.

^^^^ bought mine from edit. Too thin for my intellimouse optical, I might need the thicker strips since the thinner onces tend to get their corners dirty, and start flapping. Works well on my old intellimouse ball (with the two long strips)

its an improvement with any pad. of course optimal improvement is with everglide/ratz/func since they were better to begin with🙂

its an ergonomic aid 😉
