Cheap Monitors

tbates757 this will answer your question, but I thought others could benefit too. If you are building a computer on the cheap, go to your county/state/federal disposal resale recycling center. You can find them in most phone books or call 411. I recently bought a like-new 15" monitor for $10 and they had 17"ers for $20. As agencies upgrade, they have to dispose of their old gear. Try it, you may be surprised at what you'll find.

Except the value of a 15" monitor is negative $12 or more (disposal fee later on). I don't think I would be willing to pay for anything smaller than 19", and really with a nice 20" monitor selling used for around $100, I would say skimp on some OTHER part of the system. Only exception is when you have to hit some budget, ie one of my son's school friends only has like $75 to spend on a complete computer, which means each part has to be like nothing.

At my former job, we buy equipment from nasa. HP Laserjet 4/5 printers for $10, recently we bought a pallet of 20 monitors for about $100 ($5 each). Unfortunatly government get first dibs, then they are open to the public.
