ive got an aopen fm56-sv here.. im trying to get it working in xp home .. ive tried the latest drivers, and the cd driver, as well as two isps.. it dials out, handshakes, then sits there for about 30 seconds, then xp gives me 'error 777: the connection attempt failed because the modem on the remote computer is out of order'.. anyone got any suggestions? getting a new modem is out of the question, since i have neither the money or the time (ive gotta take this machine to someone in about 10 hours..)

the modem is v92, the isp is only v90 .. could this be the problem? i cant find any setting to disable v92.. anyone know of any?

ah .. i disabled v.92 anv v.90.. it's at v.34 now .. connects ok at 33.6. . anyone got any suggestions for fixing it at v.92/v.90? the line quality shouldnt be an issue, my old usr 56k gives me 49,333 every time ..

Maybe try this or look for a number from the ISP that supports 'K56 flex', instead of V.90.

As for the V.92 protocol, you'd think it would automatically be backward compatible to V.90, but according to the page linked above, maybe its not (I dunno).

Good luck.
