I'm looking for a cheap laptop that follow these requirements:

1) Decent enough to be considered not an old laptop, like I dont want a 1 GHZ laptop with 128MB RAM(don't know much about laptops but I consider thats pretty old considering i've seen many that are like 3 GHZ with 512MB.)

2) Not looking for a video card right now, but having the choice later on to add a video card to the laptop.

3) The ability to run the internet and ms word and all that kind of stuff college kids need.

4) Also, the ability to pay monthly.

Hopefully, this can be under $850.

That's a deal-killer. You can get decent laptops as low as $550 (walmart.com) but AFAIK all the cheap ones have fixed video.

If you only want it to "run the internet and ms word and all that kind of stuff college kids need" then why the performance requirements? You could do that with a P100 laptop you could get for $50 off Ebay. Why not look for something in the 700 - 1100 MHz range that you could pick up for $400 or so?

Plus, having a nice laptop in college = bad idea. Just ask my friends, one of whom had his stolen out of his room, and another guy whose drunkass roommate spilled beer on his.

Dell has a Celeron 2.2 with 256mb DDR, 30Gb HD, 14.1" screen & CDRW for $595 after rebates...at least in my newspaper's flyer..

Only a 90 day warranty, though...pathetic, imho.
