Cheap Laptop

I'm looking for a laptop with just good battery-life to run web browsing, email -- simple stuff.
There are some things I was considering:
Firstly, a Centrino 1.5(celeron-m) for around 750, but the one I found had a lifetime of 2 hrs.
Secondly, an AMD barebone, buy a mobile AMD, downclock and undervolt it. This is the problem:
Which motherboards (basically OEM barebones) support undervolting and downclocking (actually have a decent BIOS)? I think the AMD is the cheaper way to go, but I want to know what kind of life I would get out of it. Remember, speed is less of the issue; it is more about portability and lifetime.
