Cheap Geforce?

The time has come to replace my Voodoo 3, and I am totally confused on which inexpensive Geforce card to buy. I found plenty of them under $50, but which one is the best for the money?

Visiontek Geforce 256 DDR DDI Tv out AGP $29
Nvidia Geforce2 MX200 64mb AGP $39
Visiontek Geforce GTS-V 32mb DDR AGP Bulk $41
Visiontek Geforce2 MX200 32mb SDRAM AGP Bulk $35
Visiontek Xtasy Geforce2 MX200 32mb AGP Bulk $39

I need AGP 4x, ~32 megs. I have 2 pc's, and Athlon XP 1800+ running XP/Linux and the Voodoo3 will move to the K6-2 box. I seldom play games but when I do it's Unreal, Flight Sim, Quake, Mame, hexen, heretic, etc. Nothing that requires the latest and greatest card. Any help is appreciated!

if this helps... gf2 gts-v > gf256 > gf2 mx200

so if u want to save a few bucks... get the gf256. it performs on par with the stock gf2 mx, which is better than the mx200. if u just want the best card from the batch, get the gts-v. it will beat those other cards silly.

Thanks for the info Spanky, that does clear up some of the confusion. I just fount the GTS-V for $39.00 and still looking to see if thats the best deal I can get. I'm really a cheap b***ard so I am digging through my coupons too.

Just found the GTS-V for $35 at compuplus, but they stick it to you with a minimum $14.95 2 day shipping. Same with ussa.com for $33 and $17 shipping.
Where does the Mx400 cards fall in regards to performance?

Ugh, save ya lunch money fer another few weeks and get at least a Geforce3 ti200 fer about $150(depending on brand)... That'll at least let you play some of the newer games ready to arrive by the years end...

Hehe. Nah, I think the GTS will serve me well enough. Hell, I made it this far with a Voodoo 3.... I still haven't processed the order, found a couple retailers on ebay that may sell outside of an auction and waiting for them to reply. For under $40 I'll have plenty of graphic power for what I need...

the gts-v will still b!tch slap the mx400. doesn't newegg have the gts-v for a reasonable price, and does not rape u for shipping?

Dude for just another four dollars you can get a regular clocked GeForce 2 GTS at package2you.com GTS-V is a lower clocked GTS. OK there ya go.

Didn't see the regular GTS on that website, bud I grabbed a GTS-V from ubid for $23 + 10 shipping. $33 ain't too bad, just wish it was one of those penny shipping deals... Thanks to all for your help!

Their website is absolutely horrible, and the manner in which the auctions take place is wrong imo. But in all I think it was a good deal but will know for sure when the card arrives.

The GTS-V arrived this morning. Turned out to be a Rev. C board with 5.5ns Infineon chips. This was a really good buy IMO, <$34 for a sweet oc'able card to replace my aging 3dfx... I didn't even try the cd the came with the card, went straight for the latest Nvidia drivers and had zero problem in XP getting it going. Thanks to all for the advice and suggestions, I am set for awhile now!

While I don't have any benchmark numbers to give you, I can cite a few examples. When playing Unreal with the 3dfx, 800x600 was the best I could do without stutter. I just tried the GTS-V at 1280x1024 and was it completely smooth! Running the largest game in MAME, King Of Fighters 99, with 3dfx was slighty jerky with some artifact, with the GTS-V it is perfect, super nice picture, and I have to run the throttle on to slow it down to 60fps. I ran some Quake demos about a year ago with the 3dfx on a slower box, so I relly cannot compare the numbers. I read some of the messages on the Newegg page about the GTS-V, and there are several former 3dfx users reporting about the same 2x speed increase in the benchmarks. Check it out here.
