Alrighty ATOT, I'm looking for some cheap food that, if bought in decent amount, will last for several meals. I'm looking to save money and I know the first step is to stop eating out. I thought about PB&J, pretzels, etc. What are some other good things to look at getting? I know there are other college students out there, so come on any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

chicken or veggie stir fry.
buy whatever veggies are on sale, get lots of rice/noodles and make in a large batch. it is good the second and third day as well.
most people have soy sauce, etc already so its pretty cheap too.

I know Nissans are expensive, but you don't want to eat crappy food? You know you're going to look bad b/c of it. You are what you eat.

buy power bars (or something similar) in bulk. I typically subsitute a power bar with a V8/Fruit Juice/Odwalla for one meal everyday. Its a good way to get protein and other nutrients without alot of fat or unnecesary calories. Plus its much better than the cafeteria food at school

I've been living off of sandwiches since I moved out on my own :p Tuna, PB&J (I have like three kinds of PB, and 5 kinds of jelly/jam), grilled cheese, etc, etc :p

What about instant grits, instant rice, and some frozen chicken breasts and a small george foreman grill? )

Yes, I do have some standards (sorry can't handle Ramen, been there done that). I have also started an exercise routine, so unless I'm downing Ho-Hos and Twinkies by the gross I should be alright.

The veggie stir fry sounds good....and I've always been a fan of steamed rice. Keep them coming.

All those sound pretty good. I do have a GF grill and have never used it. Maybe it's time I give it a go. Thanks.

Those giant bags of meatballs from a grocery store and a jar of marinara can last a bit.

how much do you really think you can save by buying "cheap" food than normal food? You'll save the most just by not going out to eat. Just buy food from the grocery store, not TV dinners etc., and you'll save a bit.

On a side note, there's something I can recommend. When the dinery at my workplace went kaboom I had to resort to eating hazelnuts or almonds with bananas or strawberry for dinner. If you're a girl, I think you could do without nuts pretty well. Girls usually eat so little you wonder how they can move etc.

I wish I could get Superfood around here but the 1 organic grocery store I found that had it stopped carring it. I think getting some protein bars and substituting breakfast/lunch would help out alot.

Put out cat and dog traps all around your neighborhood.

Free food!

--edit--
Ok seriously, on top of the other suggestions try beans and rice. Pretty good stuff for when you get tired of the stir fry. Add some refried beans to that and some tortillas, you've got yourself a little burrito.

So hungry :(

Make any of the following in large batches and save your left overs.

Bolognese Sauce
Curry (gets better over time)
Soup
Stew

If you invest in some decent serving sized tupperware now, you can use your microwave to defrost one meal at a time. You'll eat well and cheaply using this method.
