XP2000+ with ECS MB $89.99

They've frequently had better deals in-store (usually involving faster processors, such as the same board with an Athlon XP 2600 (Barton) I picked up at the Las Vegas store a few weeks ago for the same price. This might be OK if there's no Fry's near you, though.

whats a cruncher?

That's what I want to know. First thing that came to mind when I saw the topic was a metal plate to stick on my forehead so I could crunch beer cans against it. And yes, I know that's a bit warped.

A cruncher is a machine used more or less just to run distributed computing projects (ie, SETI@home or protein folding algorithms) which involve the computer just crunching data. Ergo, cruncher.

Some nutcases get really into it, and setup crunching "farms" that are just a few boxes sitting in a room not being used for any other purpose than to jack up some guy's SETI stats...

I had visions of Suzanne Sommers, working a thighmaster.

*shakes head*

*back to work*....

I am not a nutcase. Ok, Maybe I am but it is not my fault!

Heck, that sounds like the basis of a decent computer to keep my wife off of my computer 🙂
