I offered to help one of my relatives find a computer. They don't need much, just enough for word processing, Internet, and that's about it. They would probably do fine with a P2 400mhz or something like that. They can't spend more than $300, which is where this gets difficult. I haven't seen any online stores with prices at that level. They also need some sort of warranty, because I don't want them always calling me for help.

Pricewatch isnt exactly the most reliable thing. A lot of the cheapest vendors are also ranked poorly on bizrate.com (or something similar).

You will be hard pressed to find a complete system with warranty for $300, especially with a monitor. Try going around eBay and look at refurbed Dell Systems (sold by Dell directly). They go for a cheap amount and come with a warranty.

Low-end like eMachines go for $399+ since Windows alone costs them $50-60.

You'll need a refurb, like at Buy.com (in clearance) a Compaq p2-333 48 MB for $198. That should be fine for word processing and web surfing. Or get something better in FS/FT here and charge them an extra $50 for phone support :)
