well the new quarter just started and UCLA charges a lot for books. so i checked out walmart.com for my CS180 book.

cost at ucla bookstore was 85 dollars plus tax. in the local bookstore, it was 79.99 plus tax.

walmart.com has it for 41.97 plus tax and ship. i did priority mail which was about 9 bux for shipping. i actually had bought the book for 48 dollars, then the next day they had it for cheaper. i just called them up and they were more than happy to refund me the difference. in the end i saved well over 20 dollars.

you can search by isbn, author, book title, and subject.

They seem to have a pretty vast selection of textbooks. Thanks for the great find! Just saved me 20% on a book I was about to order elsewhere.
 
argh! where were ya when the semester started! i coulda saved about 60 bucks on the two books i needed to buy this term 😱
 
at the ucla bookstore, my total came out to around $180
at walmart, my total was around $125
saved hella money
wished i knew about this when i first started college!

hehe i didnt know myself. once i found out, i thought id share it with all my AT friends. for the isbn number, i just went to the bookstore and wrote down the numbers from the books. i guess i probably could have checked it online too...

also im pretty sure all schools let you return your books for a week or 2. ucla gives until end of 2nd week to return for full refund. so even if you already bought a book, might as well save a few bucks for those other hot deals 😉
 
actually, over here walmart has expensive books.. thanx "safoo" for wasting my time!!! i had to drive 15miles to go the nearest walmart, and i had to skip my 2:00 class, because i had work after that..

yea... Last semester I picked up my Sedra/Smith Electronic Circuits book at walmart.com for about half of what the UF bookstore wanted. Good stuff. They include a waiver for return shipping if u are unsatisfied too. Good stuff.
 
Don't forget to get an additional 2% back from that one "bates" site. I picked up new books cheaper than what my school wanted for used.

Walmart.com is a good place to find nice deals on some textbooks, but you should always check out Amazon.co.uk as well. I bought several books that were over 60% cheaper there for this semester. For some reason, textbook prices are way cheaper to order from Europe. The savings are so great, you can even afford overnight/2 day shipping and still come out ahead. And if you are the enterprising type, you can organize a group buy the first day of class, place the order that afternoon, and have them all to sell to classmates(at a markup, of course😉) by the end of the week.
 


ugh... Walmart will drive another group of stores/etailers out of business...


BUT, it always did really piss me off paying $85 for an Algebra book! I just wish a company like Target or another smaller company was selling them...

therefore we go to amazon/bn to look up isbn ourselves

Same here at Colorado Tech. It just takes a little longer but after a while I find all the books. (Forgot to order in time this term though)
