cheap cables from BigLots

1st post. here goes...

i got these at my local BigLots, may not be at all stores:

12 ft HP USB cable A-B, shielded with foil and braided wire, gold plated contacts for $3.99
12 ft (or was it 10?) HP DSL modem cable (just regular RJ11) shielded same as above for $3.99
6 ft HP USB extention cable, shielded same as above for $2.99

they also had other cables that i didn't buy so i don't remember the prices. high quality but cheap like above.

A/V cables - S-Video, component video with gold plated contacts
ethernet patch cables

Big Lots has had the HP network cables for almost a year, nice to see some USB. Periodically they also have a 3 pack of GE colored USB cables priced from $3.99-7.99.

If they are at a place like Big Lots, any chance they are defective? I often wonder about Dollar Store, clearance, etc.

They're in sealed packages so I guess defect liklihood is the same as if you bought the same brand at full price somehwhere else.

I got some USB 2.0 cables from there. Work fine. No issues.
I just wished they would carry more kinds, like IDE or SATA, but I guess they have to buy out a place that goes under for that to happen.

..I paid over 30.00 for a 6.5 foot monster s-video cable for my hdtv..I know the monster is well constructed and has a wider bandwidth then oem due to less capactive reactance..but is oem really that bad?? oem cable was less then 10.00.

Actually, I was thinking more along lines of bad batches that are dumped for pennies on the dollar. It does happen.

If you're not doing a really long run, I'd say most s-video cables are going to be fine.

I've got some links in my sig for monstercable alternatives.

cablesforless for good quality cheap stuff

bluejeans cable for monstercable budgets but you get better quality and monstercable
