Cheap basic video Card

Research

This might not be technical but ...

I need a simple video card (32 MB or higher) which is XP compatible. I'm bringing my old computer back from the grave ... and this is the only missing component.

.. Do you know the cheapest PCI card which will work for extremely basic applications like internet and word processing?

Thanks!

Do not buy a APOLLO S3 SAVAGE IX Video Card, 8MB SGR, PCI.

You can get a Geforce 2 MX PCI around these forums for $20 or less.

It would help if you could list your price range. That way you can be steered to the best card base on price/performance ratio.

Aim for ATi or Matrox for good signal quality (sharp, not blurry, picture). Other than that, just get the cheapest you can find.

But why 32MB or higher? If you're planning on playing games with it, then you'll want to aim for a Radeon 9100 as the best PCI card (albeit very hard to find). Otherwise, maybe pick up a cheap GF4MX. Again, for gaming, make sure any video card you buy has at least a 128-bit memory bus--avoid 64-bit memory buses!
