Cheap and Silent Active Ram Cooling

Well guys, heres a little tip to save money, and keep your ram sticks cool without spending too much money:

Parts:

80mm or 92mm silent fan. 120mm is too large as you'll see.

2 Rubber Bands.

1 cutting instrument. Scissors usually

This is the general gear you need

Now you take 2 rubber bands and cut it so you get 1 long piece. Then you tie the two ends to each corner like so:

The rubber band acts as clips. Make sure the bar grill like the picture is up front. That is the direction which air flows.


Then all you need to do after that is clip the fan on and plug it in.

And there you got it. Cheap active ram cooling thats silent! What more could you ask for?

I've done it, worked well until the rubber band snapped. Lifespan of natural rubber isn't the best inside a computer case (a la original P150 HD mounts).

Mini-bungies or waistband elastic that you can find in a sewing store would be "safer" but obviously not something a lot of people have laying around the house.

very good point... you can always double up on the rubberband tho. :]

And i dont think you'll really complain about replacing a 10 cent rubberband. 😛

Yeah, but if/when it happens, you're going to have a running fan falling and bouncing off of a) your northbridge and b) resting on your video card (depending on the length of the wire).

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, it's just worth exploring other mounting options. The ones mentioned before. String. Leather shoelaces. Zipties.

i have no comment on this... cuz your correct... double up on the rubber bands then. Or dont cut it and put one end through the circle, and then tie the other end off. That should do it for wear and tear until your next case maintence.
