Cheap and mobile recording technology.

Greetings.

My goal is simple. I want to record some of my Smash Bros. Melee game matches onto my pc, so that I can then upload them to youtube or some other video site.

I was looking at the following device:

I like it because it looks simple, has decent reviews, and is cheap. Not only this, but by being usb, I would easily be able to take it to tournaments and hook it up to someone's laptop and record there.

I am aware that most tv tuner type devices have some sort of lag. As such, I want to be able to play the game on my TV, while having it be recorded on my pc at the same time. I imagine I would need some sort of splitter adaptor to allow the standard three prong composite a/v cable to go to both my TV and my pc. I seem to be brain dead and cannot find any such splitters at the moment. Some help would be appreciated.

Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Some video editing software recommendations would also be greatly appreciated.

Just play it through your PC and use FRAPS?

You may be able to mod your multi-out port to provide S-Video and composite at the same time. Of course, the S-video would go into the capture device for better quality (video captured from a composite source is HORRIBLE).

...did you read the post? He's playing a console game. Running the feed to a video-in and using the monitor as a screen is undesirable for several reasons (small screen, lag issues). It's also not going to get you any real improvement in quality.

Get a splitter for the S-Video or composite (preferably S-Video, but they're both pretty lousy) output from the GCN, and run it to a capture card or external USB capture device. Radio Shack carries splitters; Best Buy/CC/CompUSA probably does, too, but they'll charge a fortune. Search for "composite splitter" or "RCA splitter".

Whatever device you get should come with software to let you record. Then you can convert it to other formats for distribution.

Try a TV Card that is designed for a PVR that can encode and record.

You can also watch TV on your computer then.

My son used one of those ATI All-In-Wonder video cards at college to watch and record TV, Play video Games, and Computer games. Some of them are kind of pricey. With this kind of technology, the cheaper you go the less quality you get.

Might be able to record it on a TIVO Type device or use video out from a TV to a VCR or a VCR/DVR COMBO.

I don't need, nor have a desire to watch TV on my pc. I do need a device that is external from my pc, so that I can use it to record matches even when my pc is not around.
