Cheap and cheaper pc.

My daughter needs a new pc. Her husband (soon to be ex) trashed their pc and there are no usable parts left.
My daughter needs something to help organize basic financial records for the divorce and to use for internet access.
We looked at some package deals where you pay $650 or more and after rebates the final price is down to $299. She doesn?t have the initial $650 plus now so that is out.
I?ve looked at some barebones systems with the idea of trying to put something together for her for under $300. I saw one barebone by Asus but by the time I added the cpu, o/s, ram, dvd/cd burner, etc the price was over $400. I saw another one on the Tiger Direct site that used a PC Chips motherboard that included the cpu and ram and case with p/s.
That looked like it would make it under $300.

What I need is some advice and suggestions on parts and places to buy barebones that would come in under the $300 mark.

Another reason for keeping it cheap is during the divorce process the pc might be considered common property to be included in the settlement. Thus keeping it cheap means the soon to be ex won?t want any part of it!!!!

The woot.com right now looks pretty decent but its refurbished. Eh, take your chances if you'd like (not trying to scare you or anything)
 
You might also want to check out the Dell outlet. For cheap PCs, I really think they are the best option.

or just keep an eye on the deals and pick up one new. There was just recently a dual core with 19" LCD for $399

Thanks for the suggestions. It's been a few years since I shopped for a pc and I forgot about the Dell site and other sites where prices could be very good.
