I got lucky on Newegg 3 days ago. I was checking open box video cards and they had an Asus 5770 for $65! I snagged it and it came today. I had my other 5770 running in rig3 with an asus 770 chipset (single video no crossfire) so I switched the 460GTX from the MSI 790FX-GD70 mb to the Asus and put both the MSI 5770 and the asus 5770 inot the MSI 790FX. I have a CoolerMaster 650Watt PSU so now it is a crossfire rig - for CHEAP!

I have 2 5850s in rig1 and they ROCK. However, I just got done playing over an hour of COD BO on rig2 with the 5770s in crossfire at 1920x1080 resolution on a 22" monitor and they were solid with great frame rate.

Is the 5770 that good of a GPU? I bought one a long time ago just to run my main rigs monitor

800 shaders is 800 shaders. just on 128bit memory bus so half the memory bandwidth given the same frequencies.

i think in CF these are a great, a low budget and efficient solution.

I bought a 5770 when they first came out... i would def be willing to buy another during a really cheap deal like this.... when you buy stuff that is within neweggs open box section, do you still get the full manufacturers warranty?

If you crossfire 2 of them, their faster than a single 5870.
Tiny overclock and their faster than a 480.

So yeah their okay cards.

If you already own a 5770, throwing 65$ into getting another is a pretty good (upgrade) deal.
Considering that a 480/570 costs like ~300$+

It was back in September 09 and AMD thinks they are SO good they rebranded them to HD 6770 with minor changes (and none to performance)

i just evaluated two very different HD 6770s - a passively cooled Gigabyte and an overclocked HIS IceQ Turbo X. They even ran great together in CF to approximate a HD 6950 performance.

Hmm.. probably can't get a second one now. What does the 5770 compare to in the 4 series? a 4870?

you might want to fix your title (The Passive Gigabyte & Overclocked HIS HD 6770 meet the EVGA GTX 560 Ti) i know you reviewed the 550ti but you call it a 560ti several times in the review.i just glanced over it but i will read it tomorrow,it looks like a good review

5770 is almost identical to 4870 in performance.

Both cards have the same number of stream processors, texture units, and ROPs. The only difference is that 5770 uses a 128 bit memory bus instead of 256 bit on the 4870, is clocked slightly higher than the 4870, and has a lower TDP than the 4870 due to the 40nm process.

Crossfired 5770s should perform somewhere between a GTX 470 and a GTX 480.

You can get a HD 6770 to CrossFire with a HD 5770; they are the identical GPU.

Letsee, a HD 5770 is 1/2 of a HD 5870; that would be pretty close since HD 5870 was about the same as the HD 4870-X2's performance, slightly faster

Thanks, however, i fixed that title immediately after i posted it; you must have my first final draft; try refresh. And there might still be a few typos in the article**.
:(

i'm benching the new GeForce 280s now with GTX 580/560Ti and GTX 590

**You're right; i must have changed about 20 sixes to fives. :p

yep, we have reached the golden age of sli and crossfire. you can get really good dual card setups for cheap, and they obliterate the $500 high end cards.

i've been quite happy with my sli setup. my system beats out a gtx 580 so long as i'm not memory-limited. for $200, i'm not complaining.

Newegg had a sale on GTX 465s that could be unlocked to GTX 470s a few weeks ago. Price: $100 shipped.

Now I regret only buying one of them...

yeah but gpus get so much cheaper so fast. you'll be able to get something like a gtx 580 soon enough for $100.

the heat and power consumption from a pair of overclocked gtx 470s would be through the roof.

if you really want another one you could always track down something used.

the gtx465 was a card that was discounted just to get rid of. but yeah let me know when I can buy a $100 video card that matches the gtx580...

Over here 4870 512MB was $120 in mid-2009 and over the 2 years it made countless "new" mid-range cards really bad for the money.

The worst of the bunch the GTX 550 Ti at $150. Pardon me while I try to stop myself from laughing at Nvidia with a $110 GTX 460 1GB in hand.

Those were launch prices and the GTX 460 was blown out by Nvidia to make a dent in AMD's marketshare.

i just did a performance evaluation this weekend of the GTX 550 Ti versus a couple of HD 6770s and the cheapest 550 Ti can be had for $99 after MiR and the cheapest HD 6770 is about $89 after MiR (at NewEgg).

The EVGA GTX 550 Ti (OC) that i tested is $110 after rebate; the passively-cooled Gigabyte HD 6770 is $138 with Shogun II and the HIS IceQ X Turbo HD 6770 is about $119 with DiRT 3.
