I miss steeplerot and her defense of Chavez.
I think of him/her every time a Chavez thread comes up.

Move your clock back half an hour. It gives you an additional half hour in the day, at least for the day of the initial changeover.

Yeah, I know, I was poking fun of Chavez and his Education Minister.
"In his live show, he called on his brother, the education minister, so that the two men could explain the measure. But they mistakenly told Venezuelans to move their clocks forward at midnight on Sunday, when the policy is to move them back."

Ya, it reflects something reflecting quirky, even poorly considered, rushed on nis part - and his comment about the US mainly detracts from the more real issues.
On the other hand, it's fun to see a president actually doing something for the good of the people as his motive, it's not often I see that under Bush.

Chavez dismissed criticism that moving the time only a half hour was quirky, questioning why the world had to follow a scheme of hourly divisions that he said was dictated by the imperial United States.
lol....what a nut
Maybe he should make an hour 58.7 minutes long. WHo gave the U.S. the authority to dictate that an hour is 60 minutes long?

I'll remind everyone that the US/Bush just changed the Time Standard as well. Not that Chavez's change makes any sense or anything, just that he's not the only one mucking around with things brought up as Issues.

Actually that was an act of Congress and was a change to the dates the time switch takes place. It was done for energy conservation. Makes much more sense than just waking up one day and saying
"You know what. Fuck it....let's move the whole damn country 30 minutes backwards and do it by next Monday. You know, for the kids."
