I miss steeplerot and her defense of Chavez. :(

I think of him/her every time a Chavez thread comes up.

Steeplerot was booted before the offer of amnesty went into effect.

At this point he/she has not requested a review.

So is he still president for eternity?

He will now be president for eternity + half an hour.

I thought it was minus half an hour :)

Move your clock back half an hour. It gives you an additional half hour in the day, at least for the day of the initial changeover.

Yeah, I know, I was poking fun of Chavez and his Education Minister.

"In his live show, he called on his brother, the education minister, so that the two men could explain the measure. But they mistakenly told Venezuelans to move their clocks forward at midnight on Sunday, when the policy is to move them back."

Ahh. Gotcha. lol

I wonder why he doesn't just have them move the clocks back in the morning and then forward at night? Makes more time for the kids in the morning and gets them to bed earlier at night. Win-win.

Ya, it reflects something reflecting quirky, even poorly considered, rushed on nis part - and his comment about the US mainly detracts from the more real issues.

On the other hand, it's fun to see a president actually doing something for the good of the people as his motive, it's not often I see that under Bush.

I know you are a communist and all but does that require you to defend and praise even the dumbest of actions by your idelogical equals?

Whats the big deal?

Here in Newfoundland, Canada (big island up north and to the east, not Greenland >_< ) are are 1/2 hour ahead of the rest of north america (-3:30 GMT). Have a look at your computers time zone menu on the clock.

Supposed to be because we are farthest east and the 1/2 difference reflects which time zone we are closer to, but i think it's so we can be the first one to light off the fireworks come new years and Canada day.

Chavez dismissed criticism that moving the time only a half hour was quirky, questioning why the world had to follow a scheme of hourly divisions that he said was dictated by the imperial United States.

lol....what a nut

Maybe he should make an hour 58.7 minutes long. WHo gave the U.S. the authority to dictate that an hour is 60 minutes long?

Some people in rural Arabia still follow their old time system. 12 hrs day and 12 hrs night no matter how long it is. I.E If it's a 360mins (6 modern hr) night then each hr = 30 mins

But obviously using this system would mean that you would be out of sync with the rest of the world which would only makes things confusing.

I'll remind everyone that the US/Bush just changed the Time Standard as well. Not that Chavez's change makes any sense or anything, just that he's not the only one mucking around with things brought up as Issues.

Actually that was an act of Congress and was a change to the dates the time switch takes place. It was done for energy conservation. Makes much more sense than just waking up one day and saying

"You know what. Fuck it....let's move the whole damn country 30 minutes backwards and do it by next Monday. You know, for the kids."

:D:D true true, my point was mainly that things like Software and other changes mentioned aren't going bring about catastrophes.
