Chat over headset, game sound over speakers: How?

I picked up a Logitech Precision Gamer headset and when I plugged it into the front audio port of my PC, it seems to conflict with the speakers plugged in at the back. I have Realtek AC97 onboard audio. Is a sound card needed as well, or is there a way to configure it so chat is heard only through the headphones and the game audio through the speakers? The TeamSpeak forums are pathetic, there was nothing there.

Rather, it's not possible with a single sound card. You would need to install another sound card and set up the game and chat to use separate hardware.

Well, what I normally do is keep the microphone plug in, and whenever I want to change to a game, I unplug the speaker and put in the microphone, and turn off the speakers to make sure the other speakers don't play.
