Are you using windows networking or a Novell client? We had novell at my HS and I got in trouble for hacking the registry and messaging people around the school.

winpopup or realPopup <has to be installed.
BTW you may need administrator rights to get realPopup going.
theres another called TrayPop but I cant find the link. Personally where I work, us admins use realpopup and the users have traypop. Realpopup has alot of cool features and traypop has a very simple interface....

They should make some sort of buddy list program specifically for LANs... I am a Net Admin for a company, and it would be really nice to have an ICQ-type window showing me who's at their computer, who's away, etc. It would also be away for them to ask each other questions without having to walk over to someone's office or use the phone.

I know I could sign everyone up for ICQ but we're behind a router/firewall for one, and two there's no need. It would just be for internal communications.

Anyone know if there's a program like this? I assume there would need to be some sort of NT Service that would keep track of everyone's status, etc.

Btw if it's Novell, then go the the system tray, and if there is an "N" right click, go up to send message, click the server, type the message, and then send. if not, i dunno. we do this in our class, pretty funny getting 5 people to flood people :b

There is such a program, it's called ICQ groupware. It works just like the ordinary ICQ but is intended for networks/intranets. It has one server part wich is installed on one machine wich manages the lists and ID's, then every client has to install the client part of the groupware. After installation you just add the users to the server and then to the clients and you are ready to go.

Glad i could help. I don't think you will have any problems with it. I have used it for many of my customers and in my own network, and had no problems with it.

<< I agree. who actually uses all those features on ICQ? >>

You could use an earlier version of ICQ to get rid of the functions you do not need.

The groupware ICQ doesn't have all the extra functions that are availiable with the regular ICQ. So it is not bloated at all.

Netmeeting in the way that you will be using it will require that you know the IP address of the computer you are sending the message to.
