I moved my accounts from Chase to a local bank over 2 years ago after reading an article about how heavily they were invested in derivatives.
I took your post at face value based on the title and had a look see for the details.
You're overreacting to my post. I made no reference to what is currently going on, I closed and moved my accounts in July of 2006 well before any of these financial problems had started to rear their ugly heads. I moved my money because of the nature of derivatives.Originally posted by: KnickNut3
And Boomerang--any accounts you have with them are FDIC insured. Secondly, "derivatives" (generically) aren't what got banks into this mess. Thirdly, JPM isn't close to going down. Your local bank is much more likely to due to its potential concentrated exposure to leveraged investments. It's frustrating when misinformation by the media leads to inefficient financial understanding and actions by the public.

My local bank offers everything I need from a bank.
Why would you want to know that?Originally posted by: Twista

They just raised my credit limit, within a week of firing me.
Obviously one hand doesn't know what the other is doing!
This also happened to a coworker of mine, except he had a $100K+ credit line.Originally posted by: BUTCH1
They gave me a 25K equity line when I re-fie'd my house, I never used it and they canceled it last march. Every month they send me a $50 bill for annual fee, WTF, do these morons think I'm going to pay $50 for an account with $0 available to me??. Also raised my interest rate 4% on my CC for no reason, stated "to maintain profitability" on my account. So a bunch of deadbeats won't pay their CC bills and they try to make up the difference with the one's that are paying?. I'm in the process of paying off that card now and will cancel it when done and as soon as it's possible I'm going to re-finance my mortgage with someone else too, Chase sucks, period.Originally posted by: KnickNut3

Yes, the Chase site is down. You could have called them and confirmed, or just taken their site at its word.
If you need to make an online payment but can't since the site is down, just do it over the phone. They'll automatically connect you with a rep and waive the fee normally associated with the phone payments since the site is down.

Chase.com will not load at all for me.
The real kicker was that after finding out, he wanted to close the account and the bank wanted $75 to close the account.Originally posted by: BUTCH1
I guess the plummeting home values are the reason but to send someone a bill for $50 for an unusable account is moronic..Originally posted by: her209

Ah, OK. It was working last night when I tried to make a payment, you just couldn't log in to manage accounts. The woman I talked to said that they're updating through at least tonight, if I recall correctly.
EDIT: Just checked the site, it is still up like it was last night.
