No years are allowed :confused;

In their efforts for better pin security they actually have decreased the password pool by 100. The CS person said pins that start with 20 are also blocked but someone I know has one (at least for now).

Thing that sucks is they didn't notify me, my card just stopped working for debit.

The person who made this decision is an idiot, and deserves to be beaten, shot, skinned, hanged, and crucified. Everyone knows this.

They decreased the PIN pool by 100, but in doing so they increased security by forcing people to use less obvious PINs. They know better than any of us what the frequency distribution of PINs is, and I'd bet PINs between 1900 and 2000 occur with higher frequency than the rest of the possible PINs. They've forced people to spread PINs more evenly.

In other news, Radio Shack is reporting a shortage of Atari Portfolio and Magnetic Stripe Card Emulator.

The problem is with a pin you are dealing with a closed space of 0000 to 9999 and already most combinations are blocked like 1234, 9999, etc.

All these places that are requiring one capital, one number and the like are just encouraging people to write their passwords down or use the same one for everything.

BOA for example allows pins with more than 4 numbers, IE you can put 4568238 as your PIN. just translate that into a nice word and easy to remember plus hard to crack.

Variable digits FTW. Although it sucks that most banks require a minimum of 4 digits. They should make it 1-10 digits and "recommend" 4-6 so most people can still keep their favorite codes.
