So a few weeks ago I applied for the Chase Cash Plus Rewards card and I got it shortly after. This is the card that is supposed to be 5% cash back on gas stations, grocery and pharmacy. I start using it and notice that on my online statement my charges aren't being classified as they should be. For example, a CVS Pharmacy purchase is classified as "other" not pharmacy, gas bought at Gas City is "vehicle expenses" not a gas station, groceries bought at a grocery store is "other", etc...
So I check some of my other statements from my HSBC card. Hmmm, purchases at the exact same places are a little different here. CVS is a "pharmacy", Gas City is a "gas station" and the grocery store is "grocery" just like it should be. According to the Chase Rewards brochure:

WTF? How can CVS be a "Pharmacy" for HSBC and "Other" for Chase? Does Chase just screw people over on this card? Now, I haven't got an actual statement from Chase yet, so I haven't been able to see my rewards balance. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but are they known for crap like this? You will earn 5 points for each $1.00 of Net Purchases made at retail
establishments that classify their merchant location for Visa/MasterCard as gas
station, grocery store or drugstore
