Charter lowered my signal!!!! :{

I was getting greats speeds and I had Charter check my signal and it was at 9db (decibal). The Charter rep said that is very high. I believe he lowered to their standard for some reason and now i am not getting the speeds I once did. Would lowering the decibal lower the bandwidth speed. If this is true Charter reps are jerks.

If your connection was working properly, why did you have them check it?

If they check your connection and find that it is running out of spec for their system, then of course they are going to change it. If the signal had been too low then it would have been their responsibility to fix it. Your signal was too strong (according to what you are saying) so naturally they fixed that as well. What else did you expect when you called them to "check your signal"?

Lowering the db of the forward signal would not lower you speed, unless it was lowered so much it was put out of the modems specifications for signal strength.

And as far as I know, there is no way to change signal strength to one device remotely.
The signal can be turned on and off with addressable taps and splitters, but to change the strength, I am pretty sure someone would have to come out and rearrange splitters, or directional couplers.
