Charter Communications files for Bankruptcy

Who else uses the best lil' ISP in the world besides me? What does this portend? Doom? Fame? Fortune? Glamis? Dunsinane?

They had horrible service where I live. 75% of the time I played Left4Dead I would lose connection. Now I am back on DSL it is a thing of the past.

I wonder if this has as much to do with the economy as it does the rising popularity of wifi.
So many people leaching wifi these days..

That may have more to do with your internal wireing than charter themselves.
I had re-occuring drops constistantly throughout the day until I ran my own dedicated line from the box outside to the my modem.

They have horrible customer service, especially on the business side of things. I can't even count the number of times we had serious connectivity issues with them which would rarely get solved and no one seemed to give a crap. Which was rather annoying when we were giving them many thousands a month for connectivity between buildings.

I use them, 10mb internet for 30$ a month!

What a rip-off, their 10mb plan here is $55.

Yea, there 20mb plan here is 54.... although there prices dropped a lot because of FIOS, which my parents have had nothing but horrible service from verizon.

Same here. I get terribad service as well - constant disconnects, webpages timing out halfway through loading, getting kicked from games due to timeouts...

And I live right in the middle of the city too. 🙁

Charter is terrible, but the only choice for cable HIS.

How can they be so far in debt when they're ripping so many people off and never upgrading or maintaining their shit infrastructure?!?! :|

Yeah I don't know where you guys get such cheap Charter, but when I had it, it was ~$60/mo for 5mbps/512kbps. They might have a higher speed at that price now.

I agree with you...Ive had horrible experiences...once in one day I was hung up on 4 times!!! Usually when I call now I just immediately ask to speak to a supervisor and they always send a repair guy to my house...

Well, I guess if they're going out of business now is the time to start downloading and using bandwidth like a muthafaulker :-D GOTTA LOVE A 10MB LINE FOR $30 A MONTH!!!

Could be but the connection is the house probably runs about 4 feet before it hits the box outside of the house.

anyway like a lot of other people here.. the only competition they have is with people who can get DSL and directv. Their prices are very high. Even without the disconnects, I would have had to drop them after the 6 month introductory offer ended.

My favorite Charter story goes like this:

"Well, I have these trace route numbers for you. It looks like I'm having some packet loss issues around the fourth hop or so."

"Ok, what are those numbers, sir?"

"...numbers?"

"Yes, the numbers."

"Um, the IP numbers?"

"Yes, those."

I start to tell the lady on the phone

"Wait...I don't mean to be rude but why do you need these again?"

"I don't know. I kind of thought you wanted me to just write them down."

No joke - that actually happened.

I'd bet it has more to do with Charter screwing the people they owe money to.

They're the most unethical major company I've ever dealt with.

I judge a company by how they do their billing, I had perhaps a dozen screw ups on my bill, every single one was an overcharge, they never caught it, and it was a serious pain in the ass to get my $ back.

The only other company that's consistently screwed me over has been ATT.

My favorite quote from Charter: "Well, we can't refund you the $100 overcharge we forced you to pay or have your service disconnected, because once we have your money, it's no longer money."
