You are wrong . . . Republicans applied nothing but the highest ethical standards in rejecting judges who attempt to legislate from the bench . . . assuming they legislate left of center.

Of course, they want judges who think like them, say for instance one of the GOP's main positions of state rights over federal jurisdiction. You see how they used their politcal power with the supreme court to make sure Florida's rights were not trampled on by the Federal court system....

Nah, you know, the right of the states to decide without federal intervention......

Can't let the party platform get in the way from obtaining power, how else are you supposed to help the people???
That's all he wants to do, help the people....

I know you are smart enough to know what states rights really means.

Senator Byrd's racist past....and present...

Byrd Hails White Supremacist as 'My Mentor'

Senate Grand Kleagle Robert Byrd, D-W.Va., is defending his decision to honor a once prominent white supremacist politician by naming the Senate's primary office building after him, calling the notorious racist "my mentor."

Byrd, a former Ku Klux Klansman, had cosponsored the legislation that named the Richard Russell Senate Office Building after the long dead Georgia Democrat 31-years ago.

"He was kind of my mentor," Byrd said recently, noting that Sen. Russell was known as an expert on Senate rules, much like himself.

A bit about Byrd and the Klan

The whole lot of racists should be routed from the system, including Byrd.

But let's stick back to the topic shall after all, it is Charles Pickering that's being pushed for as a juidicial appointee by Bush.

What has Pickering done in the last ten years that makes him a racist? How about the last 20?

Is there anything more recent than almost 40 years ago?

If he's done nothing to help bridge the gap then he's still a racist. If he's changed, then it would be reflected in his actions.

Exactly actions speak louder than words. Byrd can say n1gger all day long however his voting record indicates he is tring to bridge the gap between peoples therfore thier is no grassroots effort to remove him.... I know my republcan friends take all what someones says as the truth (WMD's, not about oil etc) but we should look deeper at what thier doing not saying.

So what has Pickering done in the last ten years to get the Democrats so riled up?

Or is this just a racist card bandwagon that's playing that same old tune and you are jumping on it?

Well lets flip the script. What has he done in the last 10 years that would make you think he has changed? Guys like you always run out with what has done lately, screaming like some lil girl. But that goes both ways. Trent Lotts apologies couldn't save him. Not because what he said was so bad, but because his actions over the last 20 years still seem to support he still subscribed to that kind of thinking. So if you can't point to something that shows he has changed his life in a more pro minority, equal rights way he's still a racist. Just beacuse a person doesn't say or do nothing doesn't mean he's changed.

So, in terms of the charge of racism, guilty until proven innocent. That's a wonderful way to "flip the script", which has been commonplace for years now. Affirmative un-bigotry.

not singling you out , just have noticed the worng usage of a couple of words here recently. A bigot is someone who holds prejudice, a racist is someone who uses their position of power or influence to promote or advance their bigoted views.

So what is he?

What in the last 10 years of his voting record makes you think he is using his power to advance his prejudice?

Actually everyone has prejudices . . . that doesn't make them a bigot. Bigots have prejudices which resist reasonable presentations of fact. For instance, I think people who drive SUVs (say Acura MDX) are wasting resources and support terrorists but hybrid drivers (say Honda Civic) care about the environment and their fellow humans. Now if the MDX driver runs a carpool and typically has 4+ people in the vehicle but the hybrid driver rarely carries more than two . . . I have a very favorable opinion of THAT SUV driver (MDXs meet ULEV standards). If I continued to dislike SUVs then I would be an idiot and a bigot.

Can you be racist and never deny someone an education/job (white man), steal someone's car (black man), overcharge for yard work (brown man), refuse service (yellow man), or provide highly addictive and lethal substance (red man)?

Looks like it was a case of jumping on the bandwagon.

It ain't the Pickerings of the world the Blacks should worry about. It's the Jesse Jacksons that want to keep them down!
