Charla Nash, the Connecticut woman mauled by a 200 pound chimpanzee in February, appeared on "Oprah" Wednesday to reveal her face and share heartbreaking details on her life since the attack.

Nash who turned 56 Tuesday revealed "the remnants of her missing eyes, nose and lips," as ABC News described it.

Nash told Oprah that she feels no pain but that she tries not to touch her face so as to avoid knowing the full extent of her injuries.

"I don't ask a whole lot about my injuries... I know that I have my forehead," she said. She now drinks her meals "with a straw through a small hole where her mouth used to be," ABC added.

Nash lost both her hands in the attack, as well as her nose, an eyelid, and lips. Doctors removed her eyes due to an infection, and only recently did she learn she'll no longer be able to see.

"Only . . . in the past couple of weeks did she realize that she no longer had eyes, because she had been saying that she was hoping to be able to see at some point," Oprah said, according to the New York Post.

Nash now walks around her Cleveland hospital — from which she might be released soon — in a veil.

She says she wears the veil "so I don't scare people. And sometimes other people might insult you."

I see that but it's so deformed it's hard to tell if she can even speak without lips, especially since she's eating through a straw.

I remember vaguely that the chimp was shot, am I right?

Yes, it was shot by the police. And my memory was okay with me on this one, turns out Charla was attacked by the chimp in the driveway of a friends house.

It was her friends. Friend used to treat the chimp like her husband. Slept in her bed, etc.
Which would make it very territorial. Also, it came out that the "friend" fed the chimp some xanax just before the attack.

the 911 call from the owner while the chimp was attacking her friend is pretty messed up.
 
Wow, that is sad. And absolutely amazing that a chimp can do that much damage. I was expecting to see her nose missing, eyes missing, but her face is totally deformed. It almost looks like there is a huge bulge of skin where her nose is supposed to be, but maybe it appears that way because so much of the rest of her face is missing. It's just hard to tell exactly what I'm looking at from the pictures.

She was left near dead when her close friend's 200-pound ape, Travis, brutally mauled her after escaping the home he was raised in from infancy.

Travis' owner, Sandy Herold, used a butcher knife to stab the 14-year-old chimp, who was suffering from Lyme disease and had consumed Xanax - but the rampage only ended when cops shot the animal dead.

so if your best friends Doberman or Rottweiler, or hell even an Irish setter decided to eat a bottle of Xanax and suffered from rabies and one day attacked you and ripped out your throat in your friends drive way...I guess that would be YOU'RE fault?!
