Yup, stupid NYC. Just like the article says, I know a lady that got ticketed for resting her purse on the subway seat next to her in a train car that had about 6 people...

What's even worse is that the same lady cop that ticketed her saw her another day and was trying to act all friendly towards her saying how she had to give the ticket since her supervisor was with her.

I don't know whether it's true or not, but it is dated "September 16, 2004" for me.

Yeah, I heard about the tipping story, and can believe that the owner of the restaurant called the police. In a situation like that, the police kinda have their hands tied and have no choice if the owner wants to press charges. I didn't chalk that one up to police idiocy, but rather to the owner being a jerk (and quite possibly the non-tippers as well)

But this one... popping a balloon.. something doesn't add up.

Also, YES, it did occur last November...
The most un-pop-ular bust of all?

DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Just when you think you've seen the silliest of summonses, here comes another bang-up ticket.

Police wrote Queens hospital worker George Pulido a summons for making unreasonable noise because his son Christopher's Winnie the Pooh balloon popped on the street.

"I couldn't believe it," Pulido, 29, of Queens Village, said last night. "It was just a normal-size party balloon and it was an accident. You'd make more noise closing the door of a police car."

Pulido's trip into the ticket twilight zone began innocently the afternoon of Nov. 22 when he took his wife, Christina, 27, an accountant, and sons, Chris, 9, and Brandon, 19 months, to a kid's birthday party at a friend's home in the neighborhood...

and at the bottom:

Although, it's from September in the UK paper.... So, they're reprinting a story from the NY Post that occurred 10 months ago...

Yeah... sounds like good journalism to me...

Are you sure these don't qualify as tabloids?

Yeah right!

There are no ticket quotas. but an officer has to write enough tickets to justify their hours during the day. At least it is that way with the Tenenssee highway patrol. They have to have 1 ticket per two hours or something close. They get credited for 2 hours for an accident. So alhtough there is no "quota" they either write some tickets or they have some splainin to do.
Sounds like a quota to me...

Cool. So everybody just drive around slowly and law-abidingly with your seatbelts on and we'll get all the cops fired!
