Propane for steaks - test after taste test this beats charcoal every single time. Taste the meat, not the heat.

FAIL!

It's been proven time and time again that steaks do indeed taste better cooked with propane. Double blind tastes tests.

With what kind of steaks?

Any fast cook or lean steaks like ones you get from the top or middle rib section.

You are clearly in the minority on your views. Near everything I find on google has charcoal listed as the superior option for taste.

Why would you buy a fast cook or lean steak for charcoal usage? Get a porterhouse or NY Strip. Lean = tough and chewy. Get a fattier steak and the fats will break down into that luscious juice.

This is clearly a troll post ;)

Ya think? But then again, maybe not, after all, the best BBQ chefs from across the entire nation all use propane in cook-off competitions, right?

You have better temperature control with propane, making it a more level playing field.

wait, are you talking about BBQ as in smoking?

Well given that steak and grilling are something that I'm extremely good at I'm not trolling.

I could guarantee that if I made you a steak on propane and one on charcoal you would prefer the propane. Even lump hardwood charcoal leaves a taste to me.

Cook a steak for me on propane grill, and I may change my opinion. Columbus isn't too far from Louisville either.

Turn your sarcasm meter on.
Have you ever seen a professional BBQ competition, or a professional grill? Trust me, you can control the temperature, and no, I was not talking about smoking, thats a different subject.

Propane for me. I've eaten hot dogs, burgers, and steaks off of a charcoal grill, and they really don't taste that much better.
There is a difference, but to me the ease of propane far outweighs any taste benefits of charcoal.

It's sad when the jeans are far more expensive than the steaks.

Maybe for steaks. I cook lot of different meats other than steaks. For korean bbq like galbi, charcoal is the way to go. Of course something like burned wood chips would be the best. But I'll settle for charcoal.

I prefer charcoal over gas for steaks as well.

Of course, I was just saying it's best for fast cook steaks. For just about everything else I use charcoal or lump.

Pork particularly seems to taste better on charcoal, every kind of pork - loins, chops, roasts, sausage, bratwurst, etc.

yea but how do you light your charcoal. I am astounded by people dumping tons of lighter fluid on charcoal. A chimney starter is the way to go for me. It's quick, easy, and the taste is really good. I love that smokey caramelization you get from charcoal over gas. Gas is definitely convenient though. For me it's a matter of how much I plan to cook and time spent. If it's a lot and I got time, then its coal, if its a short mid week meal, it's gas.

Original Levi's 501's from the Burlington coat factory, $9.98. They are not in a bunch, however, they do have a BBQ sauce stain. I have to admit, that for day to day use, I have a natural gas grill.

Charcoal all the way. If I was going to use propane I would just use my gas stove/oven.

I've noticed a big difference from grill to grill too. Some of the more expensive grills seem to cook more evenly than the cheapy grills that last 2 or 3 years.

As far as taste goes though, it's entirely subjective. Some people don't even notice the difference. However, given only 2 choices: charcoal or propane, I think the better flavor clearly comes from charcoal.

However, why are you guys limiting it to only 2 completely alternatives? There are propane grills with a box for wood chips. It still imparts that flavor; maybe not quite as good, but certainly close enough. I got home at 11:30pm last night and hadn't had dinner. 10 minutes later, I was eating some awesome cheeseburgers. You can't do that with charcoal.
