changing XP bootscreen question

I've always understood it that XP's boot screens are limited to 16 colors. I recently installed BootXP2, and a few boot screens I've tried look impossibly good for only 16 color. Googling turned up mostly people saying "16 colors only" but I saw more then a couple say you can use 256 color images. Like I said a few I tested, I don't see how anyone could make them look that good for 16 colors, regardless of what kind of dithering was applied. 256 isn't exactly going to wow anyone, but if it's possible to go above 16 colors I'd probably waste the time to create a custom screen.

Also (sorta on topic) why is Vista STILL limited to a low-res low lower boot screen? When will MS get off their anuses and get up to speed. I know a boot screen is a small thing, but ugh.

As you realize not many people(besides you apparently 😉) care about their boot screen

some people do, you can find thousands of boot screens for downloading off google. I'll agree it's not common place, but I like to mod my system in any and every way possible.

shell replacement = LiteStep
wordpad replacement = EditPaid+
logon screen replacement = Logon Studio
caculator replacement
skin replacement = Windowsblind
icon replacement = iconstudio

Over the years I've modded just about every physical aspect of XP I can. The boot screen thing is the one that bothers me, my screens look junky, and I use ones other people made and they look like 256 color. That is pretty much the last thing I need to change to have my XP looking completly unlike XP 😀
