Changing web domain DNS servers- how do I move to a different DNS server/web hosting company?

My domain name and benefits the provider has to me expire in 30 days. I want to move to a place where I will actually have web hosting instead of just forwarding (already have where I want to go). How do I release my domain from the clutches of the old company to sign up with the new one?

P.s.: Going from DomainDirect.com (domain forwarding, POP3 and more) to ICDSoft.com (this time to have it hosted, plus everything else the latter has).

You need to update your domain record to reflect the changes. You need to change the Name Server record to the IP address of the new company's main DNS server that contain all your DNS entries.
