Ok, so my 05 Legacy GT's belt is supposed to be replaced at 105k. I have 92k now and 13k away from the first timing belt service. I don't drive the car super fast...
ok?
I would recommend one of these sooner than later. A friend of mine lost the engine in his '05 due to a failed oil pickup.
Happened to buddies 03 WRX. Luckily it was covered on his extended warranty.
Any particular reason you want to change it early? Water pump die?
why not. a timing belt snapping is a VERY VERY costly problem. If you have the time/money do it now for another safe 100k. Most roll the dice and go maybe 10-20k over and are still fine but again a timing belt job is anywhere from $300-1000. A new/used head is about $1000 + the timing belt job and possibly R/I a damage piston or 2
jlee: so Did you replace your oil pick-up tube with the killerB unit? I'll have to talk to the mechanic...
i would check water pump too. mite as well service the water pump too if you're going to do thet-belt.
A timing belt replacement is not just milage. It is milage or age, which ever comes first. Same as coolant or many other things.
Check the owner manual as many are 6-8 years or XYZ milage.
I think your is 8 years OR 105k
