Changing the drive Letter in RAID 0 and XP

Just set up a new system. I am using a RAID 0 array in XP Home and it is recognized as my G:\ Drive. C:\ is my backup drive on a normal controller, the RAID 0 drives are my boot or OS drive. XP tells me I can't change the drive letter of my boot or system drive.

I am used to the C:\ drive being my OS drive.

Can I really not change this? Any ideas?

thanks,

LJ

Here's an idea. When you load an OS, only have the RAID drives installed. In fact, when building a new system, you should only have the bear minimum installed. Then add the other parts one by one.

Are you booting off the RAID array? If your "backup" drive is now C:\ I have a feeling you're booting off of that.

Thanks. No, I am booting off od the RAID 0 array. You are right about the install, I probably should have pulled my other 2 backup drives out first. Oh well, no big deal, I will just get used to it. Funny how windows puts the RAID array on the last available letter, even after CD drives.

That's odd. My RAID array is C, and has been for the three times I've installed XP. Of course, I pull any additional HDDs before hand. But it's never put my array after my optical drives.

don't think XP will allow you to change the drive letter in that case! 🙁

AmusedOne - you may only have hard drives on the RAID controller. I also have 2 additional hard drives on the normal IDE controller of my Abit TH7II-RAID board. I believe windows sees these first.

Regardless, I am kind of getting used to my OS being on G:\ Apps still default to G:\Program Files as the default path.

Also AmusedOne, I just threw in a 2.0 Northwood. I see you are running yours at 2.2. Did you need to up the voltage at all?

As others have stated, Windows won't let you change the lettering now. But I remember someone mentioning that there was a utility floating around that would. Maybe a google on "drive letter utility" would get you somewhere.
