Changing the badging of cars

I know you see a lot of rebadging of cars for the intent to make it look like something it is not.
Usually it's done to make a lower trim car look like the more premium trim.

Has any one seen, or know of someone who has rebadged their car for the opposite intent?
For example, someone buys a subaru wrx, or wrx sti, and rebadges and changes the car to look like a impreza 2.5rs.

I'm not talking about completely de-badging a car.

Yes. I saw a Mustang Cobra w/ V6 badges on it. The Civic he raced got blown out of the water and I'm sure he wasn't expecting that.

What moron raced a Civic (assuming rice-mods only) against even the Secretary's Mustang in the first place? :p

someone in my grade about two years ago told me about this one guy who owned two S - Classes, (one 500 and one 320) and switched the badges on them.

Hah, the dual exhaust and low growl wasn't a dead giveaway?

Yes, usually to lower risk of theft.

Interesting, never thought about that aspect.

My buddy had all the 440 badges taken off of his '71 Charger when he had it repainted.

It was easier to find people to race.

BTW-this was 30 years ago.

Lots of STi owners are swapping trunk lids with WRX owners to lose the park bench cop magnet on the back of their cars.

Yea I see that a lot on the subaru forums. Though when they do that they DE badge their car completely.

If they swapped trunks, and rebadged it to a 2.5rs then thats what I'm talking about.

My friend debated putting V6 emblems on his Mustang GT.

I was looking at Civics today and found a good deal on a Civic SI. They happen to be one of the most stolen cars in the country, I would certainly debadge it if I every bought one.

Yea, but a Si looks like an Si, and nothing but. At least the new ones.

Don't think it would matter, a Civic is a Civic. The vast majority of stolen Civics get stripped for parts, so its not like someone would turn it away b/c they didn't know what type it was.
