I have an HP laptop that I am wanting to do a reinstall of Windows 7 OS.

Laptop did NOT come with OS CD.

The laptop has a recovery partition for re-bricking OS back to factory status.

My question is will I be allowed to repartition the hard drive during recovery, so that I can place the Window 7 OS into a portion of the hard drive, so that I can leave the balance of the hard drive available for Linux Mint OS ?

Thanks.

Nope, it will put it the way it was from factory.

You can after the fact shrink the partition down if you want and then install mint after.

The one thing I would suggest you to do is make the recovery media first before doing the restore. As installing mint will probably screw up boot information so you would not be able to recover it after (by pressing f11)

If you have the media, it will blow it all away and recreate it all.

Would the media re-create EVERYTHING including the recovery partition and the HP tools partition ?

Thanks.

the restore media will make your laptop exactly the same as the first day you bought it so yes

As G73S said, yes it will recreate everything including the recovery partition

Thanks for the replies.

I just hope no one has messed up the intregrity of the recovery partition.

I suppose I will find out shortly when I make the media copies - that is after I wait for this approaching thunderstorm to pass by.

Thanks.
